TALBOT COUNTY, Md. - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration announced Friday new measures to improve traffic safety in Easton.

MDOT SHA officials said crews will be converting the flashing beacons at MD 328 and Black Dog Alley into full color signals next week. Authorities said nearly 10,000 vehicles a day travel MD 328 and there's been in increase of traffic on Black Dog Alley.

According to MDOT, the new signals will enhance safety by facilitating turns and crossing movements for Black Dog Alley drivers, especially during peak-commute times.

Crews said they will be putting out signs to alert drivers of the change and construction work. MDOT also said a video detection system will be put in place as well as new signage and line striping.

The project is estimated to cost $30,000. Authorities said Rommel Engineering and Construction of Linthicum is expected to finish the project in two days.
