Sussex Countians Prepare for First Snowfall

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del.- Delmarva will be getting their first snow of the season Tuesday and there are mixed reactions from residents.

At ACE Hardware Store in Lewes, employees say customers are already asking about snow supplies. But WRDE Chief Meteorologist says people can hold off on the snow shovels for tomorrow.

"We are likely to have accumulation on the grassy areas, but the pavement and the streets should be okay," Williams says.

Dr. Ray Glick who moved to Delaware from Chicago says he can handle the winter weather.

"One of the reasons we moved here was because we wanted to get away from the Chicago winters," he tells WRDE. "As far as we're concerned the weather around here in the winter time is wonderful!"

But Arlene Fagan does not feel the same.

“I don't like snow, I don't want snow," she declares. "We haven't gotten through fall yet, so no--I'm not looking forward to any snow."

The first snow of the season coincides with Winter Weather Awareness Week.

Winters in Delaware can pose a threat to people if they don't prepare, and take the proper precautions. The week is dedicated to raising awareness so that people can stay safe this winter season.

Winter Weather Awareness Week starts Monday and ends Friday, November 15th.
