A big check means big change for a group in the area. The Milton Theatre is one of 32 recipients of the Longwood Foundation grant for over 100-thousand dollars.

The plan to spend it is already in motion. Director Fred Munzert says the first step is to officially buy the building. Next is to renovate the inside, but not getting rid of it's original charm.

"Part of it is the restoration and bringing it back to what it was initially intended for. There was a balcony initially, we really want to put it back in," said Munzert.

Next is the seating area and functionality of the space.

"We'll continue to keep it flexible, like we have now, so we can clear things out and have weddings and dances and things like that in there. But we're excited to have all new seating. Both downstairs and upstairs will have all new seating," said Munzert.

The improvements help not only the theatre, but the surrounding area. Milton Theatre has plaid a key part in building the community in Milton.

"We have folks that come from up to two hours away for us as a primary destination. They come down here, they stay in the hotels, they eat in the restaurants, they buy gas and shop here," said Munzert.

The theatre has the opportunity to get the grant money matched.  You can help them buy going to shows, going to event, or as simple as clicking here and donating online.
