New Montessori School in Seaford Awarded $7.6 Million Loan

Posted: Updated:

SEAFORD, Del.- The USDA awarded Sussex Montessori Public Charter School a loan to begin construction in January.

Sussex Montessori is now accepting enrollment for kindergarten to third grade and tuition is free for students. With grants and funding from the state, all families have to do is register before Jan. 8.

"We want all families to know here in Delaware you are wanted, you are welcome. Your child deserves a place where they are valued, where they can learn and grow to be their best selves, as unique as they are," said Community Outreach Coordinator Kaneisha Trott.

Students of different ages will work in groups to learn. At Sussex Montessori, education is tailored to each child and each student works at their own pace.

"Children develop not only their academic skills, but also develop these important self-efficacy skills of leadership: I can do, I can make a difference, I can create ways to do things better in the world," said chair of the Sussex Montessori Board, Linda Zankowsky.

The plans for the new school include renovations and four new classrooms.

Enrollment will be accepted until Jan. 8. If there are more than 260 applicants, the school will pull students from a lottery.
