Ocean City's Pet Policy Challenged by Hotel Owners

Posted: Updated:
OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City hotel owners are challenging the resort town's pet policy.

The current policy only allows pets on the boardwalk between Oct. 1 and April 30, and some hotel owners believe the town should add more time for pets.

Adam Showell, the general manager at Castle in the Sand, says the town's pet policy affects his guests' plans.

"They'll actually come in April and October, but not May and September because they can't bring their dog along with them," says Showell.

Showell and other hotel owners are requesting that town leaders permit animals on the boardwalk during the months of May and September.

It is an idea that not only business owners are hoping will come to fruition, but pet lovers as well.

"We're a family resort and a lot of families are dog owners. I think it helps the resort," says Sandi Smith.

The Ocean City Hotel Motel Restaurant Association will next ask the mayor and council to consider their proposal.
