UPDATE: Crisfield Water Back On After 'Extreme Emergency' Thursday

Posted: Updated:

CRISFIELD, Md.- Water service has been restored in Crisfield after a major water line break Thursday.

Mayor Barry Dize said early Thursday that due to an "extreme emergency," all water service in the city's water service area would be turned off for several hours Thursday.

Dize said in a public notice that the water would be shut off for several hours starting at 8:30 a.m. As of 1 p.m., the city announced that water has been turned back on.

The city had already shut off water starting at 10 p.m. Wednesday and it was briefly restored at around dawn Thursday. The purpose of the shutoff was to finish making repairs to a major water main line on Richardson Avenue, which caused the city to shut off water last week as well.

The city announced another boil water advisory. According to a public notice, loss of water pressure can increase the risk of water contamination. So, the city is urging people to only use the water for bathing and washing unless they first boil it to use it for cooking and drinking.

According to the city, the boil water advisory may be in affect for several days, though officials only expect it to last for the next day or so.

Anyone with questions should contact Crisfield City Hall at 410-968-1333.
