Frankford Swears in New Police Chief

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORD, Del.- The town of Frankford has its own police force once again.

On Friday night, Laurence Corrigan was sworn in as the town's chief of police, revitalizing the police force. For nearly two years, Frankford has not had its own department, but instead contracted state police troopers for coverage.

Corrigan says he will help the town in a managerial role as well, setting up policies and procedures, which will be a lot of work, but rewarding.

"Creating a new police department is a wonderful opportunity," he says. "Make no bones about it--it's a lot of work but we are going to get through it."

Corrigan says the community and allied agencies have been very supportive. Many neighboring departments attended Corrigan's swearing-in, including Georgetown and Millsboro's police chiefs. Corrigan says he's excited to work with them and get started.

"We've got a lot planned here we've got programs for the elderly, we have programs for the young, computer crime protection for the children," he explains. "All kinds of after school programs that we are starting here in addition to traffic issues and things of that nature."

Corrigan comes to Frankford after 30 plus years in law enforcement.
