PIKESVILLE, Md. - Maryland State Police announced Friday that they will have more troopers on the road as people across the state look to travel for the holiday week.
MSP said they will be deploying a number of initiatives to help keep traffic moving, to respond to accidents quickly, and to take action on violations.
Starting Wednesday, Nov. 27, troopers will be focusing on enforcement efforts of things like impaired, distracted or aggressive driving. Through a grant, more troopers will be on the roads and in areas known to have a higher frequency of impaired driving arrests or crashes.
In 2018, MSP said 130 people were arrested for driving under the influence during the Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 22-26. During that time, 7,338 vehicles were stopped and 4,537 citations were issued to drivers across the state of Maryland.

A local marching band full of students, of elementary school age, are getting ready to take the grand stage on the Redskins field this Sunday. When the Maple Elementary School Marching Band began, they were the only elementary school marching band in the state. And now they are continuing to receive national attention. Earlier this week, Sydney got a chance to catch to see how the students are preparing for their performance and learn about the achievements they've accomplished so far.
