DENTON, Md.- Maryland State Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon crash in Caroline County that left one woman dead and seven other people injured.

Troopers say Sheila Beasley, 51, of Denton, was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Pontiac Vibe, when she was hit and killed by a Chevrolet Suburban on Route 404. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say the driver of the Pontiac, Jessica Lynn Beasley, 27, of Denton, was traveling east on Route 404 shortly after 12 p.m. Sunday. Police said that for unknown reasons, Jessica Beasley drove into the westbound lane into oncoming traffic, crashing into the Chevrolet. She was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, according to troopers.

Officers say the driver of the Chevrolet, Roger Rivers, 47, of Riverdale, Md., along with his four other passengers, were taken to area hospitals for their injuries.

A 16-year-old girl driving behind the Chevrolet was also taken to the hospital after swerving into debris while trying to avoid the crash, according to police.

The road was closed and traffic was detoured while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Police say charges are still pending as the investigation continues. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Corporal Gore at Easton Barrack.
