The Town of Milton Holds Annual Christmas Parade

Posted: Updated:

MILTON, Del.- Santa Claus has come to the town of Milton for their annual Christmas parade on Wednesday night. It was a chilly night, but it was full of Christmas cheer.

There was over 85 entries in the parade. It included 4 Sussex County High School marching bands, car displays, floats and tons of Christmas lights. The Milton Christmas parade was hosted by the Milton Fire Department. DJ Hughes, the chairman of the parade said the Milton Fire Department has been holding the parade for 36 years. Hughes said this year's parade is bringing some changes.

"When I was a kid we use to have a Santa house to go to after the parade. This year the historical society is hosting a Santa meet and greet after the parade," says Hughes.

Many people came out to the parade to see the lights, the decked out cars, and of course Santa Claus. Other people came out to see members of the community walking in the parade and supporting the town of Milton.

"I love seeing all the firetrucks, the local businesses and the companies that are in the parade. It is so cool to see our friends in the parade supporting our town," said Christina Windish.

At the beginning of the parade every participant was given a trophy. Four Sussex County High School Bands performed at the parade to compete for first place. The bands included Cape Henlopen High School, Sussex Central High School, Sussex Tech High School "Raven Nation" and Milford High School. All of the bands were judged at the parade and only the top three schools received cash prizes.

Santa Claus rode in style on the Milton Fire Department truck for the grand finale of the parade.

If you missed the parade, you can watch the whole thing on our WRDE Facebook page or our WRDE app. The next parade will be held in Georgetown this Thursday.
