Perdue Farms Veterans Participate in Wreaths Across America

SALISURY, Md.- Perdue Farms hosted its annual Wreath Day Ceremony at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Thursday.

The Salisbury-based poultry giant has been hosting the Wreath Day Ceremony for six years, and has been involved with Wreaths Across America for 14 years.

"Its very important to remember our fallen heroes and that's why we're here today to remember and commemorate their sacrifices," said George Coffin, a U.S. veteran and truck driver for Perdue Farms.

This year Perdue Farms plans to deliver 25,000 wreaths from New York to Florida, West Point, Annapolis, Arlington and several other national cemeteries.

Every year, 1,600 cemeteries participate in the program all over the U.S., to lay wreaths to commemorate fallen soldiers.

Elmer Davis, whose father was honored Thursday, said he appreciates ceremonies like this, because it's important for everyone to remember that freedom is not free.

"Freedom is essential," Davis said. "Because of freedom we have an opportunity to move around in this area and be able to get an education and other amenities that the United States of America provides for us. We all need to understand someone sacrificed and my father was one who sacrificed."

Their message is to remember fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve, and teach the value of freedom.
