Selbyville Drug Investigation Leads to 7 Arrests

SELBYVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police say a lengthy drug investigation in Selbyville has led to the arrests of several people. 

Troopers said that on Thursday, Dec. 19, members of the DSP Sussex Drug Unit and the Governor’s Task Force concluded a three-month drug investigation that involved Janie C. Handy, 30, and Herbert Handy, 56, and the sale of illegal drugs at a home on Polly Branch Road in Selbyville. Both were known to live at and sell drugs from the home on Polly Branch Road, according to police. The investigation also resulted in multiple vehicle stops with the seizure of heroin and drug paraphernalia, police said. 

Police said that on Nov. 26, a traffic stop was conducted and those in the vehicle were identified as Elizabeth Meekins, 41, of Ocean City, Md., Wendy Scott, 51, of Ocean City, Md., and Thomas Peacock, 25, of Selbyville.

Troopers said that as a result of this investigation and consent search of the vehicle, the following items were seized:

  • Approximately 19 bags of heroin
  • Drug paraphernalia

On Thursday, Dec. 19, another traffic stop was conducted and those in the vehicle were identified as Kathleen J. Tamalavicz, 68, of Bishopville, Md., and Carl Lee Fadely 3rd, 57, also of Bishopville.

Police said that as a result of this investigation and search of the vehicle, the following items were seized:

  • Approximately 40 bags of heroin
  • Drug paraphernalia

Troopers said that upon execution of the search warrant at the home on Polly Branch Road, Herbert Handy and Janie C. Handy were taken into custody without incident. Investigators said Janie Handy was found in possession of more than $530 in suspected drug proceeds. Police said that as a result of the search of the property and vehicle stopped leaving the property, the following items were seized:

  • Approximately 40 bags of heroin
  • Drug paraphernalia consistent with ingesting heroin
  • 17 caliber Savage rifle
  • 7mm Savage rifle
  • .22 caliber Fllj Pietta rifle
  • Unknown caliber rifle American Gun Company
  • 12 gauge Winchester shotgun
  • .22 caliber Stevens Rifle
  • .22 caliber DF Mossberg Rifle
  • 12 gauge Sears Roebuck Shotgun
  • Unknown caliber WH Hamilton rifle
  • 12 gauge Mossberg sawed-off shotgun
  • 12 gauge Remington shotgun
  • .22 caliber marlin firearm rifle
  • .380 caliber Smith and Wesson Walther semi-automatic handgun (reported stolen in 2014) 
  • .22 caliber RG revolver
  • .22 caliber Freedom Arms revolver
  • .380 ACP semiautomatic
  • Pietro Beretta unknown caliber semiautomatic
  • 9mm AP9 FEG HUNGARY semiautomatic
  • 22 caliber Foglio revolver

On Thursday, Dec. 19, Janie Handy was charged with delivery of a controlled substance (heroin). She was processed and arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.

Also on Thursday, Dec. 19, Herbert Handy was charged with delivery of a controlled substance (heroin). He was processed and arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,000 secured bond.     

Additionally on Thursday, Dec, 19, Kathleen Tamalavicz was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Heroin) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was processed, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace and released on a $500 unsecured bond.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, Carl Lee Fadely 3rd was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Heroin) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

On Nov. 26, Elizabeth D. Meekins was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), third-degree Conspiracy, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  She was processed, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on an OR bond.

On Nov. 26, Wendy Scott was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), third-degree Conspiracy, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  She was processed, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on an OR bond.

On Nov. 26, Thomas A. Peacock was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), third-degree Conspiracy and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was processed, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on an OR bond.
