REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a late Wednesday night crash in Rehoboth Beach that left a woman dead.

Troopers said that at around 8 p.m., an SUV was heading northbound on Coastal Highway in the left lane just north of Munchy Branch Road. According to police, 68-year-old Eduarda De Jesus Andrade De Ayala was crossing the highway when she stepped from the median into the path of the SUV. Police said the driver was unable to see De Ayala, who was wearing all dark clothing and not using a light.

The driver, a 29-year-old woman from Rehoboth Beach, was properly restrained and ultimately not injured. She remained on the scene.

De Ayala died at the hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

Coastal Highway northbound had partial lane closures for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
