Hotel Heavily Damaged by Fire in St. Michaels

STMICHAELS, Md.- Authorities are investigating an early Wednesday morning fire that caused an estimated $150,000 in damage to a hotel in St. Michaels.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire broke out shortly before 8 a.m. at the Harbourtowne Resort Hotel at 9784 Martingham Circle.

The two story hotel was unoccupied at the time the flames broke out. A neighbor called for help after discovering the blaze.

It took 45 firefighters approximately 15 minutes to get the two-alarm fire under control. Investigators believe the cause of the blaze to be electrical failure in an interstitial space between an exterior wall.

Investigators said the fire caused an estimated $130,000 in damage to the structure and another $20,000 in damage to its contents.

There were no reported injuries.
