New Shark Catch Limit to Go into Effect in Maryland

DOVER, Del.- The charter boat fishing industry, which had not been permitted to operate in Delaware due to the COVID-19 pandemic after being deemed "non-essential," was allowed to resume operations starting Friday at 8 a.m. 

The Delaware Division of Small Business issued the following guidance for charter fishing:

Prior to Trip:

• Reservations only. Reservations and ticketing services should be made online/phone with no cash or paper tickets exchanged to the greatest extent possible. Contactless payment should be maximized.

• Only Delaware residents until June 1.

• Staff and guests must undergo health screening based on DPH guidance available at

https://coronavirus.delaware.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/177/2020/05/5.7-EssentialServices-Screening-Policy.pdf.

• Areas of boat used by passengers, rental or shared equipment, gangway railings and other contact surfaces must be completely cleaned and disinfected after each trip and logged.

• Limit capacity up to 30% occupancy while ensuring 6 feet radius around individual household units.

• Bag or coat checks are not permitted.

During Trip:

• Face coverings must be worn by passengers and crew.

• Bathrooms must be disinfected every hour with a logged checklist to ensure completion.

• Maintain signage and markings to remind and help individuals stand at least 6 feet apart when in line to enter or exit the boat, on the dock, or in common areas or walkways on the boat, including to mark fishing area at 6’ sections to enable social distancing.

• Ship staff should educate customers on distancing required.

• Limit the number of people in a confined area to enable adequate distancing at all times.

• No-touch entry and exit should be maximized.

• Customers must bring their own food/beverages.

• Handwashing or hand sanitizing must be available.

Failure to adhere to this guidance may result in closure until the end of the state of emergency and/or additional civil and criminal penalties.
