Tips for Windy Weather

12/1/2006

UNDATED- With windy weather poised to hit the peninsula, here are some ways to keep your property safe:

  • Secure windows: use storm shutters, or fit plywood to window frames. The Federal Emergency Management Agency does not recommend tape on window panes, as that does not prevent glass from breaking.
  • Trim trees: Low-hanging or damaged branches should be cut down. The American Red Cross also suggests homeowners cut out branches in a few areas
  • Drive cautiously: Obey posted speed limit signs, and use extra care when driving high-profile vehicles.
