Information, including times and locations, for events taking place across Delmarva to remember the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Please e-mail 9/11 events to news@wboc.com so they can also be included on this page.

Maryland

  • Wicomico County/City of Salisbury: Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt and Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman will make a proclamation Tuesday at 3 p.m. in front of the Government Office Building in Salisbury. Firefighters, sheriff's deputies, and County Council members will be on hand for the event.
  • Salisbury University: Salisbury University will commemorate 9/11 with its fifth reading of the Gettysburg Address and a student-led candlelight vigil. The Gettysburg Address ceremony will be held at 8:46 a.m. in the Fulton Hall Courtyard. The candlelight vigil will be held at 8 p.m. It will begin at the Guerrieri University Center and end in Red Square. For more information call (410) 543-6030.

Delaware

  • Sussex County: The Sussex County Council will hold a ceremony to commemorate Sept. 11 before its Tuesday night council meeting. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers and will include recognition for local heroes who serve residents and visitors. There will also be patriotic music and a tolling of the bells in tribute to those who died.
  • Smyrna: The fifth annual ecumenical observance of 9/11 will be sponsored jointly by the First Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna and the Smyrna-Clayton Ministerium at 7 p.m., Tuesday. The outdoor ceremonies will begin on Commerce Street in Smyrna, in front of the fire house. Following the outside ceremony will be a candlelight vigil and procession into the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 118 West Commerce St., across the street from the firehouse. An ecumenical Service of Solemn Remembrance will be held in the church sanctuary led by area clergy, including the Rev. Tom Flowers of St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church; the Rev. Dr. David Humphrey and the Rev. Carol Terry of Asbury United Methodist Church; and the Rev. Dr. John Riley of the First Presbyterian Church. During the ecumenical service attendees will be invited to light candles of remembrance for family, friends and others who perished on 9/11. The public is invited to attend both events. Attendees unable to stand for the outdoor part of the bservance are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. A supply of candles will be available.
