Laurel Traffic Stop Leads to Big Pot Bust

LAUREL, Del.- Laurel police say a Wednesday night traffic stop resulted in the seizure of more than 100 pounds of marijuana.

Police say that around 9:11 p.m., officers stopped a 2005 Chevrolet van for a traffic violation. According to police, during the traffic stop it was discovered that the driver and sole occupant was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. At that point the driver was placed under arrest.

Police say a search of the suspect's van revealed two large bales of marijuana with a combined weight of more than 100 pounds. Police say the estimated street value is approximately $85,000.

The suspect, 49-year-old Donald Gayle of North Brunswick, N.J. was charged with trafficking in marijuana between 100 and 500 pounds, possession of a deadly weapon during a felony, possession with the intent to deliver, maintaining a vehicle, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, failure to stop at a stop light, DUI and failure to signal.

Gayle was jailed on $141,700 cash bail only.
