Case Dismissed For Old Ravens Logo Creator

Ravens Lawsuit No More Ravens Lawsuit No More

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by an amateur artist over the first Baltimore Ravens logo, the "Flying B" that was used by the team from 1996 to 1998.

Frederick Bouchat alleged in his lawsuit that the Ravens, the NFL and NFL Films violated copyright laws by using the logo for commercial purposes. However, federal judge Marvin Garbis found no violations. The judgment also stated a settlement was reached between Bouchat and another defendant, The (Baltimore) Sun.

Garbis agreed that the use of the logo in films was inconsequential and a fair use.

Bouchat has collected no royalties or damages for use of the logo. However, he successfully sued in 1998 after he sent the design to the team and they used it.
