SEAFORD, Del.- The 20th Annual Nanticoke Riverfest begins Friday at 5 p.m. An opening ceremony will be held at the Main stage (Mt. Olivet Church Parking lot). On Saturday you can enjoy the float-in down the Nanticoke River. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and starts at 7:30 a.m.
According to Riverfest Co-Chair Trisha Newcomer, the event is become bigger and better each year.
"This is our 20th year and we are really super excited to celebrate." said Newcomer. "We have great new lineups and we can't wait."
Live performance’s will be held on the steps of the City hall and the main stage. The Friday night headliner is Mike Hines.
According to second Riverfest Co-Chair Amanda Lloyd, soon the streets of downtown Seaford and the river will be packed with more than 10,000 people throughout the weekend.
"The Riverfest is basically an event that brings everyone downtown to highlight the Nanticoke River," said Newcomer. "We have a float where you basically float down the Nanticoke."
Some of the new activities at this year's event include a boat parade that begins on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Children can participate in a carnival, a fishing tournament, and a lot of fun games. Admission is free.
"We are able to do what we do because we have the backing of our community," Newcomer said. "The Riverfest was funded solely through sponsorship from our community businesses who believe in this event and the reasons that we do it."
