BERLIN, Md.- As cleanup continued on the beach at Assateague, the state park welcomed its campers back Wednesday. Park officials reopened the campground gates at 2 p.m.
The park sustained damage to dunes and dune crossovers as a result of last weeks storm. Officials said there was also some flooding in areas of the campground. The temporary closing of the park caused some camp visitors to have to make alternative plans to stay in local motels.
Park officials say although clean-up efforts are ongoing, most of the campgrounds are accessible to campers at Assateague State Park.
