Delaware GOP to Hold Primary Campaign Debate

DOVER, Del. (AP)- Republican candidates for U.S. Senate and state treasurer are taking the stage to explain why they think they can best represent the GOP in November's elections.

The state Republican Party was set to hold its first and only primary campaign debates for party candidates on Thursday night in Dover.

But the debates won't be like those normally seen on television.

Officials say Senate candidates Kevin Wade and Carl Smink have agreed that they would take the stage individually to answer questions from the audience but would not be on the stage together.

Meanwhile, treasurer candidate Sher Valenzuela has opted out of the event, with her campaign telling state GOP officials she would not feel comfortable.

Valenzuela's primary opponent, Ken Simpler, will be on hand to field questions from the audience.
