Fire Damages Church Parsonage in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Del.- Firefighters from 12 companies and two counties battled a fire that broke out Monday morning at a church parsonage in Cambridge.

Officials with the Rescue Fire Company said that shortly after 6 a.m. firefighters responded to a blaze at the parsonage of St. Mary's Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church located on Glasgow Street. When they arrived the parsonage was fully engulfed in flames.

There were no reported injuries. The pastor of the church, William Lawler, was out of town when the fire occurred. He said the outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous.

"Everybody's been offering homes, and help and everything," he said.

Damage to the parsonage is estimated at $350,000.

Fire officials said the fire started in a front office. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the investigation into the cause of the fire is still early and ongoing.
