CAMBRIDGE, Md.- The S.S. John Brown has arrived in Dorchester County for its week-long stay.
According to the Dorchester County Office of Tourism, the ship is one of only two remaining and operational World War Two liberty ships. Beginning Sunday morning, the 76-year-old ship will be open for tours.
The ship is more than 441 feet long and weighs more than 7,100 tons. The liberty ship was originally launched in 1942 as a merchant ship. The Dorchester County Office of Tourism says during the war, liberty ships carried every type of cargo, including beans and bullets.
