It's hard to believe 2019 is almost over and a new year is about to begin! Several communities across Delmarva are ringing in the new year with ball drops and other festivities. Check out the list below for an event near you:
Berlin, Md.
Berlin’s New Year’s Eve Celebration Ball Drop will get underway in the downtown area with a kids' ball drop from 5 p.m., with the kids' event ending at 6:30 p.m. Then at 10 p.m., the adult event gets underway with music and beer/wine, with the main ball drop at midnight.
Cambridge, Md.
Downtown Cambridge will host its New Year's Eve Boat Drop. A small replica of a deadrise — the traditional waterman’s workboat — will drop at midnight. The boat drop happens on the 300 block of Gay Street. For more information call 443-477-0843 or email office@cambridgemainstreet.com
Chincoteague, Va.
The Pony Island Horseshoe Drop is an end of year celebration that culminates in a promenade of crazy costumes just before the countdown to the stroke of midnight. That's when the lighted horseshoe drops just in time to ring in the New Year. Wear your favorite costume or just be a spectator. To become totally immersed in the oddest of silly visual spectacles, you should head for the Downtown Waterfront Park around 10:45 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
On New Year’s Day at 1:20 p.m., the Polar Pony Plunge will take place on the beach at Assateague Island, Va. Plungers are encouraged to dress up in the zaniest, craziest costume they can come up with! Prizes await the best costumes in many categories, and more. Click here for more details.
Dover, Del.
Modern Maturity Center, located at 1121 Forrest Ave., will hold a new year's eve celebration with doors opening at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Music and dancing to the Honeycombs from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 p.m. Tickets:$35 per person include dinner, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight. Easton, Md.
First Night Talbot 2020 will present its annual celebration of the arts by welcoming in the new year in historic Easton. First Night Talbot follows the traditions of the inaugural First Night event that began in Boston in 1976. In recognition of the value of healthy family alternatives to traditionally alcohol-related events, First Night Talbot is alcohol- and drug-free and the only First Night celebration in the state of Maryland. With an added focus on the opiate crisis, First Night Talbot is proud to incorporate the Talbot Goes Purple initiative into its celebration. Performances will be held in the following downtown venues: Academy Art Museum, Avalon Theatre, Prager Auditorium, and the Waterfowl building.
The now-famous Maryland Crab Drop will occur twice during the evening on South Harrison Street: 9 p.m.– known as “Midnight in the Mid-Atlantic”- and the traditional countdown at midnight. Both of these will feature folks with “fish hats” and sea creature puppets, led through the street by Bagpiper Randy Welch! Crab buttons, for admission to all performances, will be available in advance in mid- December through Dec. 30. Adults – $8 Children – $4 under 5 years of age free.

Georgetown, Del.
The Town of Georgetown will hold its New Year's Eve celebration on The Circle from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Enjoy live music from "Glass Onion." Stay warm by bonfires and a heated tent. Get your picture taken in a photo booth. Eat at some of your favorite food trucks. Click here for more information.

The resort town will hold its New Year's Eve celebration and fireworks show at Northside Park on 125th Street to celebrate both the beginning of 2020 and the 27th annual Winterfest of Lights, which also wraps up on Dec. 31. The fireworks display, which will begin promptly at midnight, will be accompanied by live entertainment, warm hot chocolate, and the opportunity to ride through the Winterfest of Lights. Princess Anne is inviting the public to its New Year's Eve Midnight Muskrat Dive on Somerset Avenue, in front of the Washington Inn and Tavern. The family-friendly celebration will be held from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. with Marshall P. Muskrat to dive at midnight from atop Independence Hall. The event will also feature live music, food and spirits, games and prizes, and muskrat photo booth. Main Street shops will be open late. Admission is free.
Salisbury, Md. Ring in the new year in downtown Salisbury, with the 2020 New Years Eve Ball Drop. Rev up those noisemakers, and get ready for a night filled with live music by AMP Studios and the Tops Cut Off DJ Team, plus giveaways and confetti at midnight! The New Year's Eve Ball Drop is an all-ages, family-friendly community event held Monday, Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. - just after midnight near the intersection of Main Street and North Division Street. Beer, wine and champagne will be available for purchase outside, and local food trucks will be on-site. Free parking will be available in lot one and in the parking garage.
