FREDERICK, Md. (AP)- Maryland State Police say a nurse who stopped to help at a pre-dawn crash scene on an interstate highway bridge fell at least 100 feet into a river after jumping over a concrete barrier.

Lt. Wayne Wachsmuth says 47-year-old Angela Weir thought she'd be crossing a median, but instead plunged into the Monocacy River shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

University of Maryland Medical System spokeswoman Karen Lancaster says Weir was discharged after treatment at a trauma unit in Baltimore.

Lancaster says the driver of a crashed dump truck, 53-year-old Charles Williams of Baltimore, is in serious condition.

Wachsmuth says the driver of a tractor-trailer that hit the dump truck was taken to another hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
