OCEAN CITY, Md-Warm weather is here and so are bikes and scooters in Ocean City.

But officials met today to move forward with banning e-scooter and dockless bike sharing companies from coming to town.

Officials say these companies often have policies that allow people to use bikes and scooters and leave them just about anywhere, posing a safety concern.

"The public right away becomes cluttered for pedestrians and particularly  people with ADA issues, and then it just becomes more of a nuisance," Captain Michael Colbert with OCPD said.

At Ocean City's Council meeting, officials discussed the possibility of an ordinance that would ban these types of companies from setting up shop in Ocean City.

The proposed ordinance is still in its initial phase, but officials voted today to move forward with the ordinance to ban it completely.

But some, like Tracey Taylor, visiting the OC boardwalk today said, "I think it is a good idea. People have to walk less, it's easier to get to places. If you're walking a long time you get kind of tired."

But OCPD says there is limited control with these e-scooters it could lead to increased accidents around town. But the main focus for the ordinance will be banning bikes and scooters that can be left anywhere.

John Barrett, owner of Bike World in Ocean City says he disagrees with the idea.

"There's more of a personal touch, when there's a location with people. I'll employ 5 to ten people this summer," he said.

Others agree, and think investing into local bike shops is the way to go.
