DOVER, Del. (AP) - Outgoing Delaware treasurer Chip Flowers, who dropped a re-election bid last fall, says he isn't done with politics.
In a farewell speech Monday, the embattled Democrat said his political career is not over and suggested that he intends to run for office in his new home state of Massachusetts.
Flowers ended his re-election bid in August following harassment allegations made by his former deputy, Erika Benner. He was subsequently cleared of the allegations made by Benner, who was forced to resign last year after repeated misuse of her state credit card.
Flowers suggested Monday that the Democratic leaders turned a blind eye toward Benner's misconduct and false statements while targeting him, which he blamed partly on race.
Flowers is the first black person elected to statewide office in Delaware.
