World Series Draws in Thousands to Sussex County

ROXANA, Del.- Thousands of people made their way to Delmarva for the Softball World Series tournament that began Sunday.

Clouds filled up the sky for most of Sunday, but that didn't stop people from coming out to support their local teams. With teams traveling from Canada, Latin America and even Europe, thousands of people are in Sussex County for the games. They're expected to pour in millions of dollars into the state.

"Three years ago we did the impact through Delaware Tourism and the one series by itself was 1.3 and with the new world series it was brought up to 2.1 million," said Martin Donovan, the director of the World Series.

That's people staying in local hotels, eating at local restaurants and shopping at local stores.

The World Series could have been anywhere. Officials say they plan on keeping it that way for a long time.

"I've always told people the only way we're going to loose it is if we give it up, screw it up or run out of money," said Donovan.
