MILTON, Del. - A Sussex county food pantry is seeking the community's help in "Stocking the Pantry" with donations. Catholic Charities, known as Casa San Francisco in Milton, says donations are down and what small thing the community can do to help make a difference.
With temperatures dropping and the ongoing pandemic, food pantries like Casa Catholic Charities in Milton are in high demand.
"Since the pandemic, we've been more in need of donations monetary and of course food," said Darius Humphries, the services manager at Casa San Francisco.
He says because of high COVID-19 risks, they have not been able to receive clothing donations
Safer options canned goods, non-perishables, pasta, bread, peanut butter, and more.
Food isn't the only thing in high demand. Humphries adds that more people have been coming in to find shelter during these times.
"A lot of people are partially who aren't able to work depend a lot of the services we have here and at other locations," added Humphries.
Many of the donations are distributed through Casa's emergency food program.
Those who are in need would need to fill out an application and receive a food bag.
The shelter is grateful for the donations they've received so far and is assuring any donation can go a long way.
"Every little bit goes a long way," said Humphries.
However, none of it would be possible without donors and volunteers.
"We can't function without our volunteers and the people that help contribute and donate to us. That's one of the things that helps keep us going and helps our mission," said Humphries.
The shelter is open 24 hours donors can drop off their donations this weekend at any time.
The shelter also says that if the community doesn’t want to shop during the pandemic, then grocery store gift cards are a great way to support Catholic Charities.
