Man Leads Delaware Police on Car Chase to Maryland

DOVER, Del - Dover police say a late Saturday night crash left a woman dead and a teen injured.

Officers said that just before 11 p.m., a 2004 Ford Explorer being operated by Nicole Hauf, 32, of Dover, was traveling at a high rate of speed in an eastbound direction on White Oak Road, just east of the Route 1 overpass. Police say Hauf was unable to make a left curve and ran off the right side of the roadway and then entered a ditch.

The department says the vehicle overturned at least three times and came to rest on its roof in the eastbound travel lane of White Oak Road.

Police say a 13-year-old passenger was properly restrained and able to free herself from the vehicle. Officers say Hauf had to be extracted and the passenger was admitted to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital with a serious chest injury, but is in stable condition.

The Dover Police Department says Hauf was admitted to the hospital with a severe head injury and died due to her injuries on Sunday morning, Oct. 7.

During the investigation it was learned that Hauf was involved in an argument on the phone while driving. It is also believed that alcohol and speed are factors in the crash.
