HARRINGTON, Del. - A Connecticut man has been arrested on gun and weapons charges after a traffic stop early Monday morning in Harrington.
According to Harrington police, shortly after midnight officers stopped the vehicle of Jovaughn Alphonse, 23, of Hartford, Conn., due to a traffic violation.
Officers reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and proceeded to conduct a search.
Police said officers found a loaded 9mm handgun that was within reach of Alphonse and 3.13 pounds of marijuana.
Alphonse was taken into custody and transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing.
Alphonse was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon a Firearm, Possess or Own a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited, Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Quantity, Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance and No Person Shall Use an Electronic Communication Device with Vehicle is in Motion.
Alphonse was then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $15,501 secured bond.
