HARRINGTON, Del.- A Harrington man is facing multiple charges following accusations that he threatened to shoot a neighbor and his dog.
According to Harrington police, the victim contacted the department at around 1 p.m. Monday to report that Edward L. Bonsall Jr., 65, pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill the victim and the victim’s dog.
Police determined that the victim’s dog got loose from the victim’s home and went onto Bonsall’s property in the 100 block of Wolcott Street.
When the victim went to retrieve the dog, police report Bonsall and the victim got into an argument and Bonsall allegedly then went inside his home to grab a handgun.
The victim told police Bonsall pointed the gun at the victim and threatened to kill the victim and his dog.
Police determined later the handgun in question was a BB gun after it was found inside the home.
Police went to Bonsall’s home and took him into custody without incident.
Bonsall also advised police that he had several other guns in the home which police seized.
A computer check revealed that Bonsall is a Tier 3 (high-risk) registered sex offender and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Bonsall was transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing.
Bonsall was charged with Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession, Purchase or Own a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, first-degree Reckless Endangering and Terroristic Threatening.
He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was released on $24,000 unsecured bond.
