Lewes Man Accused of Hitting Woman in Head with Lumber

LEWES, Del. - A Sussex County man faces multiple charges following accusations that he hit a woman in the head with a piece of lumber.

The Delaware State Police have arrested 50-year-old Donald L. Maull, of Lewes, for assault and drug charges.

Troopers responded to the Beebe Medical Center in reference to an assault complaint shortly before noon on Wednesday. 

A 32-year-old woman told them that she was assaulted by Maull earlier that morning. 

Further investigation revealed that the woman had gone to Maull’s home on Ward Avenue in Lewes to retrieve some belongings as she recently moved out. 

The victim reported the two got into an argument and that he hit her in the back of her head with a piece of lumber. 

The victim was helped by a neighbor and taken to the hospital and treated for a serious head injury.

Troopers located Maull later that day traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on Beaver Dam Road. 

Maull was taken into custody and found in possession of approximately 0.001 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Maull was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Second-degree assault 
  • Aggravated menacing
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Maull was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $76,400 secured bond.
