Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Two Drug Arrests in Laurel

LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police say a suspicious vehicle in Laurel led to the arrests of two people on drug and related charges. 

Police said that shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, a trooper observed a vehicle parked in the rear parking lot of the Royal Farms on Sussex Highway in Laurel for an extended period of time. 

Upon contact, the vehicle was still running and the two occupants inside were asleep.  The male driver was observed exposing himself, according to police. The trooper woke up the pair, identified as 36-year-old Stewart A. Timmons, of Harrington, Del., and 33-year-old Candace A. Comegys, also of Harrington. Police said a further investigation revealed Timmons was under the influence of a combination of drugs and unable to operate a motor vehicle safely.

Troopers said they found on Timmons a lorazepam pill and two suboxone strips. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded drug parpaphernalia and approximately 12.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Timmons and Comegys were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 5 where they were charged with the following:

Stewart Timmons: 

  • Possession of controlled substance Tier 2 quantity
  • Second-degree conspiracy
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance
  • Two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Second-degree indecent exposure
  • Driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs

Timmons was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $3,500 secured bond. Police said that upon arrival to SCI, Timmons was found concealing approximately 1.46 grams of methamphetamine and 1.48 grams of marijuana. As a result, he was additionally charged with promoting prison contraband and tampering with physical evidence.

Candace A. Comegys:

  • Possession of controlled substance Tier 2 quantity
  • Second-degree conspiracy
  • Two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on her own recognizance.
