MILTON, Del.- Delaware State Police have released the name of a woman who died in a two-car crash Monday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Lyn G. Kargaard, 67, of Ellendale.
The crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Shingle Point and Gravel Hill roads.
According to police, Kargaard was driving east on Shingle Point Road when she stopped at the stop sign of the intersection. A 38-year-old Georgetown man was driving an SUV south on Gravel Hill Road when police said that for unknown reasons, Kargaard pulled out in front of the SUV.
Police said the man's SUV hit Kargaard's car on the driver's side, forcing her car to spin. Police said she was ejected from her car as a result.
Troopers said Kargaard woman died at the scene. A Doberman Pincher that was in a cage in the backseat of Kargaard's car also died in the crash, according to police.
The Georgetown man was wearing a seat belt. Troopers said he was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated and released.
According to police, impairment is not a factor for either of the drivers.
The intersection was closed for about three hours. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
