MILLSBORO, Del. - The US 113 southbound lane over Iron Branch is now closed until construction is finished in mid-November.
DelDOT will be replacing concrete encased beams that were installed in 1916. They are replacing the beams with a precast concrete three-sided frame.
Best Cleaners is in the shopping plaza that is next to the bridge. Clerk Mary Mumford said she fears customers will stop coming in due to the traffic.
"I didn't see that much of a change yesterday. But today is another day, they're still coming in, complaining about it being a nightmare," said Mumford.
Charles Terrano has lived in Millsboro for 6 years. He said he can adjust to the detour routes.
"You just gotta be careful and slow down. And the delay was probably five or ten minutes at most, at least that's the way it affected me," said Terrano.
A detour route for motorists will be to take a right onto Radish Road, left onto Hickory Hill Road, and a left on Handy Road to return to US 113.
Trucks will have to travel from US 113 southbound to Route 24/Millsboro Highway westbound and then left on Nine Food Road to return to US 113.
A police officer will direct traffic at the intersection of Radish Road and Hickory Hill Road between the hours of 6am to 9am and 3pm to 7pm.
Only the southbound lanes will be affected by the construction.
