SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is facing attempted murder and related charges after police say he beat up his girlfriend and tried to strangle her with an electrical cord.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday that on Feb. 21 a woman stated that she got into an argument with her live-in boyfriend at their home in the 2000 block of Pine Way.
According to the sheriff's office, the woman claimed the argument turned physical when her boyfriend, 39-year-old Marco Antonio Ramirez-Munoz, grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly punched her in the face.
The assault reportedly continued when Ramirez-Munoz wrapped an electrical cord around his girlfriend's neck and attempted to strangle her, according to investigators.
The sheriff's office said the assault was interrupted when a young child entered the room but Ramirez-Munoz returned with a large kitchen knife and threatened to kill his girlfriend.
The victim was taken to the hospital where the deputy met with her prior to taking Ramirez-Munoz into custody, the sheriff's office said.
Ramirez-Munoz was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was ordered held without bond in the Wicomico County Detention Center.
