OCEAN CITY, Md. - Members of the Harley Davidson family are visiting Ocean City this week for OC Bike Fest. They're sharing their experiences about growing up in the major motorcycle family.
Jean Davidson and her son, Jon Davidson Oeflein, are holding a number of presentations to talk about their family history. It's being hosted by Stark & Stark.
Jean's grandfather, Walter Davidson was one of the found founders of the Harley-Davidson company. Jean jokes that she always wanted a horse growing up, but that her grandfather told her she had enough horsepower to play with.
Jean says she calls herself a historian, since she loves telling her families stories. She and Jon add that the best part, though, is hearing the stories of so many others that they get to meet along the way.
"I love people. I love their stories of why they ride. They usually have a reason why," Jean says. "Of course I'm hard of hearing now because of the loud noise," Jean jokes.
Jon adds, "This 300 pound biker... you know what I mean, the guy's 7-feet-tall, and he'll have a tear in his eye, and [he'll say] it's such an honor to meet you and its like, it's an honor to meet you. Then, he'll tell us some great story about how he was in Vietnam, he came back, he was lost, and he didn't know what to do. But, he got a motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson, he started riding and it changed his life."
Jon and Jean will be holding more presentations this weekend, alongside Joel Rosenberg, partner at Stark & Stark. They'll be held at the Stark & Stark tent in the Seacrets Jamaica parking lot Friday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. as well as on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
