WASHINGTON (AP)- Joe Biden has won the last few delegates he needed to clinch the Democratic nomination for president as states that voted Tuesday continue to tally mail ballots.
Biden now has a total of 2,004 delegates, surpassing the 1,991 he needs to win the nomination at the party’s convention this summer.
Biden has been the party’s presumptive nominee since early April, when Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race. But it took Biden an additional two months to rack up enough delegates to formally become the nominee after 15 states and two U.S. territories postponed elections due to the coronavirus pandemic.
