Public Masses Canceled on Eastern Shore

DOVER, Del.- Many people across Delmarva will be trading in church pews for their couches on Easter morning.

But a lot of churches are making sure parishioners can still attend Sunday services, but in their living rooms.

"The Easter season is a time of great joy and hope for all Christians. And it's very difficult to feel that joy and hope when there's so much uncertainty and fear and dread among our community," said Bob Krebs, a spokesman for the Catholic Dioceses of Wilmington.

Just one month ago, the Dioceses closed the doors of its churches as COVID-19 began to spread in the US.

Now just days before Easter, the Dioceses says individual churches will be streaming mass, in addition to Bishop Malooly.

"They're welcome to go on the

Dioceses of Wilmington YouTube page

, and on Saturday night at 8 o'clock, Bishop Malooly will be streaming mass from the Cathedral, and then Sunday morning once again, the Bishop will be live streaming," said Krebs.

In Dover, Pastor Amy Yarnell of Wesley United Methodist says the church has been holding Zoom meetings with parishioners and have been posting services on

Facebook

. "We have begun pre-recording our worship services - we were live streaming them for the first few weeks, and then beginning from Palm Sunday we started assembling recordings, of music and liturgy," said Yarnell.

While this Easter season has been unconventional, religious leaders hope putting services online will make the holiday as normal as possible.
