WILMINGTON, De - It was a moment filled with fear.
Protestors, banging on the doors of the House chamber, guns drawn by Capitol police.
But Delaware's sole congresswoman, Lisa Blunt Rochester, was focused on hope for the safety of herself and others sheltered in the House gallery.
We asked her what motivated her to begin praying in that moment, and said that she shared a moment with friend and colleague Val Demings (D-FL), and began to pray.
"Like girl, you believe in the power of pray! Prayer changes things, god can fix anything, and what did was shook me to the core, and I just started really praying for myself and in a low voice, and then, it just - the spirit just jumped and it got louder and louder and I started to feel the hands of other members of congress just touching and agreeing," said Blunt Rochester, who could be heard calling out in prayer in video captured by those sheltering in the gallery with her.
After yesterday's traumatic events, the congresswoman is calling for the president's removal from office.
"I have long had many concerns about his fitness for the job, and competence, particularly when it comes to this COVID pandemic. But this situation to me presented clear and present danger for our safety as a country, for our national security, and for our democracy, and I think not another day should go by where we have a leader who is not a leader for all people," she explained.
She is not the only one calling for President Trump's removal. Both Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons from Delaware have also voiced their thoughts on the matter, urging for the president to be removed.
While it's unclear what will happen next after yesterday's events, one thing is clear.
This moment of prayer was a powerful and bright spot on a dark day in our nation's history.
