DOVER, Del.- Police have arrested a Dover man accused of using a hammer in an attack that left another man in critical condition.
Jerrin Rountree, 39, is charged with first-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
Dover polcie said it happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday on the 100 block of South State Street. Officers were called to that location for a report of a man bleeding from the head with another man standing over him with a hammer. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim with a severe head injury.
Police said officers also located the suspect, Rountree, standing nearby and took him into custody without incident. Officers additionally located the hammer they say was used in the assault. It was later learned that the assault occurred as a result of an argument between the two men, according to police. .
The victim was transported to Kent General Hospital where he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Following his arrest on the aforementioned charges, Rountree was ordered held on a $20,000 secured bond.
