One Arrested, One Sought in Seaford Drug Bust

 

SEAFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested one suspect and another remains at large in connection with the distribution of illegal drugs.

The Sussex Drug Unit, assisted by the Sussex Governor’s Task Force, concluded a one-month investigation of Rayshawn Sheppard, 28 and Dajuan C. Sheppard, 18, who were suspected of distributing illegal narcotics from their home in the 24000 block of German Road in Seaford. 

Detectives obtained a search and seizure warrant for the home and found Rayshawn Sheppard standing by his bicycle on German Road near the location.  Officers reported that while Sheppard was taken into custody, he tried to discard approximately 1.13 grams of powder cocaine.

During the execution of the search warrant at the home, police said the following was seized:

  • Approximately 1170 bags of heroin (8.19 grams)
  • Approximately  11.28 grams of powder cocaine
  • Approximately 94.89 grams of marijuana
  • Over $1300 in suspected drug proceeds
  • A .40 caliber Taurus handgun loaded with five rounds that was reported stolen
  • Drug Paraphernalia

A computer inquiry revealed that Rayshawn Sheppard was a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.  He was transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 4 quantity
  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity
  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime or Felony (2 counts)
  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (2 counts)
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm
  • Attempted to Commit Tampering With Physical Evidence
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Rayshawn Sheppard was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $71,600 secured bond.

Troopers have been unable to locate Dajuan Sheppard, who currently has an active warrant for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
