DOVER, Del. - Dover Police say the man suspected of raping a young child more than a year ago was arrested this week.
According to authorities, Juan Hernandez was wanted for second degree rape of a minor since Oct. of 2018. Police learned of the allegations after the victim disclosed the incident to a school therapist. Police say the incident happened in March of 2011, when the victim was 6-years-old at the time.
An investigation identified Hernandez as the suspect and arrest warrants were issued.The FBI recently received a tip that Hernandez was was in Beaufort County in South Carolina. The FBI then reached out to Dover PD and the U.S. Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force on Dec. 31st.
He was taken into custody on Thursday. Police say Hernandez is not a legal U.S. resident. He is awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
