DOVER, Del. -- Governor John Carney (D) signed the state's $4.45 billion operating budget, several days ahead of the end of the legislative calendar for 2019.
Earlier Tuesday, Senate lawmakers voted 20-1 to pass the operating budget, which represents an increase of more than 4 percent on last year's budget. They also gave final approval on $63 million in one-time expenditures for the fiscal year starting on July 1.
Both bills contain the lion's share of a $75 million funding program for Delaware schools to benefit students from low-income families and kids who do not speak English as a first language.
Lawmakers are expected to vote on two other "money" bills before the end of the legislative calendar on Sunday: the Bond Bill, which funds capital infrastructure investments, and the Grant in Aid bill, which allocates funding to nonprofits like fire departments and senior centers across the state.
