Eden Man Sentenced After Child Porn Conviction

BALTIMORE- An Eden, Md. man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was convicted of sex crimes.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Christian Moylan, 38 of Eden, must serve 10 years in federal prison, followed by 25 years of supervised release, and must register as a sex offender. He was convicted of trying to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct.

Those charges stem from a December 2016 plea agreement. The DOJ said Moylan sent a sexually explicit photo of a young girl over the internet. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified, and the Maryland State Police and Homeland Security Investigations initiated an investigation.

Their investigation revealed that Moylan had been using a fake female identity to communicate with minors using a messaging app for several years.

Authorities said he would use this fake identity to meet young girls in various Internet chat rooms and start private online conversations with them. Between June 2014 and September 2014, officials said Moylan sent very sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl, and he persuaded and tried to persuade the teenager to send him sexually explicit photos of herself.

The DOJ said he also had more than 1,000 images of child pornography, including images that portrayed the sexual abuse of prepubescent minors, including a toddler.

Moylan's federal sentence will run concurrently to the state sentence he is already serving.
