U.S.-operated flights returning deported migrants to Venezuela will continue despite President Donald Trump’s assertion to consider the country’s airspace closed. Venezuela’s government announced Tuesday that the twice-weekly flights will proceed following a request from the Trump administration. This reverses a previous announcement that U.S. authorities had suspended the flights. An application by Eastern Airlines for a Wednesday arrival was made public by Venezuela’s foreign affairs minister. Venezuelans have been steadily deported this year after President Nicolás Maduro, under U.S. pressure, ended his policy of not accepting deportees. More than 13,000 migrants have been deported this year.
