DELMARVA-- National Guard troops from Maryland and Virginia are headed to the Nation's Capital as protesters storm the U.S. Capitol and Senate Buildings.

On Twitter, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that at his direction, Maryland State Police troopers are heading to assist the Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Capitol Police. Governor Hogan also said he instructed the Maryland National Guard's Adjutant General "to call up a rapid response force to support law enforcement and restore order."

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam says members of the Virginia National Guard and 200 Virginia State Troopers are being sent to Washington D.C. as well per D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's request.
