Chris Kreider had a third-period hat trick to help the New York Rangers erase a two-goal deficit and beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 to close out the second-round playoff series in six games and advance to the Eastern Conference Final. Kreider single-handedly erased the Hurricanes' 3-1 lead entering the final period, He had the winner when he tipped in Ryan Lindgren’s wraparound attempt to make it 4-3 at the 15:41 mark. Barclay Goodrow added an empty-netter. Martin Necas, Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho scored for Carolina, which had won two straight after falling into a 3-0 hole.

Widespread power outages, risk of tornadoes as Houston area gets pummeled again by thunderstorms

Severe thunderstorms have blown out windows in high-rise buildings, downed trees and knocked out power to nearly 900,000 customers in the Houston area as southeastern Texas gets pummeled for the second time this month. The National Weather Service says flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings are in place for multiple counties. Damaging winds and even tornadoes are possible into Thursday evening. Flights have been grounded at Houston’s two major airports. Heavy storms slammed the region during the first week of May, leading to numerous high-water rescues, including some from the rooftops of flooded homes.

The Fever rookie struggled with foul trouble for the second straight game, drawing three in the first half and a fourth early in the third quarter. She finished with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and three turnovers — none after the first quarter. But the Liberty pulled away with a 12-0 second-quarter run and never let the Fever get within single-digits in front of a sellout crowd of 17,274.

Kim's sister denies North Korea has supplied weapons to Russia

The influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has again denied that her country has exported weapons to Russia. Kim Yo Jong labeled outside speculation on North Korea-Russian arms dealings as “the most absurd paradox.” She said in a statement Friday that North Korea had no intention of exporting its military technical capabilities to any country or opening them to the public. The U.S. and South Korea have accused North Korea of supplying artillery and missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine in return for advanced military technologies and economic aid. Russia also has dismissed that accusation.
